Playing against other clubs

"It is a great priviledge to represent the ladies section of Mill Green by playing against other clubs.  There are lots of opportunities to play competitive golf as part of a team and we are always looking for new people to join in.  Please feel free to contact the team Captains/Organisers if you'd like to take part".

Ladies friendly matches

Anyone can sign up to play in these matches and they are a great way to play as part of a team in a friendly environment.  The format is usually 4BBB matchplay with ladies playing off 3/4 handicap.  There are 10 mid-week friendly matches, an additional 6 week-end friendly matches plus one mid-week match for senior ladies which are all played against other clubs.  There is a nominal fee to take part which usually includes golf and lunch for the mid-week matches and golf, breakfast and cake for the weekend matches.
There are usually 5 or 6 pairs of players on each side and ladies play in team uniform and there is not usually any requirement to change your clothes after playing.
The sign-up sheets for these matches are posted 7 weeks before the match date.  They give all the details of format, the number of players required in the team, the cost, the food included and can be found on the notice board in the corridor outside the ladies changing room.
The dates of the matches are in the club diary and the Lady Vice-Captain who organises the matches can provide further information on request.

Mixed friendly matches

Anyone can sign up to play in these friendly matches and although many couples play together, the organiser will pair up single players wherever possible.  The format is usually 4BBB matchplay with everyone playing off 3/4 handicap and the match is followed by dinner.  Players wear team uniform for the match and are required to change their clothes after playing.
The sign-up sheets for these matches are posted on the notice board in the rear corridor.
The dates of the matches are in the club diary and Jacqui Dixon who organises the matches can provide further information on request.

The Pearson Trophy matches

The Pearson Trophy was established by Isette Pearson in 1911.  She wanted a competition which higher handicap players could take part in and decided to involve clubs in Surrey, Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Kent as they were readily accessible by train from London at that time.  In 2014 we have been drawn to play against Bishops Stortford, Hartsbourne, Aldwickbury Park, and Hadley Wood in the first round.
Players with handicaps between 13 and 32 (inclusive) play singles matchplay off full handicap.  Teams consist of 7 players who play in handicap order and play against teams selected by the Pearson Organisers both home and away.  Players wear team uniform for the match and are not required to change their clothes after playing.
It is very helpful to have a large squad of ladies available for this competition and there are often sessions on play and rules for you to take part in to improve your knowledge and confidence so please feel free to join in.  The sign-up sheets for these matches are posted on the notice board in the corridor outside the ladies changing room and the dates of the matches are in the club diary.  The Pearson Team Captain Leah Bretton can provide further information on request and more detail is available on the HCLGA website.

The Ovaltine League (scratch) Team matches

Ladies with handicaps of 14 or less are eligible to play in these matches and the teams consist of 5 ladies who play singles matchplay off scratch in handicap order.  Players wear team uniform for the match and are not required to change their clothes after playing.
Mill Green has two scratch teams.  The A team is in group A of division 1 and will play against Moor Park, Mid Herts, Harpenden and Knebworth in the 2014 season. The B team is in group B of division 4 and will play against Harpenden, Ashridge and Berkhamsted in the 2014 season.
The Captain of team A is Aly Nedza and the Captain of Team B is Karin Abeles and they wil be happy to talk through details with you if you would like to play for the teams.
Further information about the scratch teams, their fixtures and the sign-up sheets can be found on the notice board in the corridor outside the Ladies changing roomand more detail is available on the HCLGA website.
